Kyle O. Chandler PDF Print E-mail

Kyle O. Chandler, a 27 year-old Detroit, MI, native, graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy in 1999.  He then attended Colgate University, in upstate New York, where he graduated with a B.A. in English Literature and Educational Studies in 2003.

While attending Colgate University, Kyle did extensive research in South Africa and Japan.  In South Africa, he researched the correlation between the quality of life during apartheid and the growing AIDS epidemic.  A great deal of this research took place while working as a youth counselor at a home for absconded and abandoned boys in Cape Town, South Africa.  In addition, while in Japan, Kyle was able to research, first-hand, the effects of WWII and the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Such global experiences have fully enhanced Kyle's ability to engage students with literature at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, where he has been teaching for the past six years.  During this time, he has also completed the Griots Program at Marygrove College, receiving his Masters of Education in the Spring of 2008.

Since being at U of D Jesuit, Kyle has been selected to participate in the Seminars in Ignatian Leadership.  In order to discover more about the saint who founded the Jesuit order, he has followed Saint Ignatius' footsteps through journeys to sites such as the Shrine of the Black Madonna and the Coliseum in Spain and Italy.

Kyle is the fourth of six children and is anxiously awaiting the birth of his first child with his wife of one year.
