As Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Health Alliance Plan, Maurice E. McMurray is responsible for legal, governance, regulatory affairs and provider contracting.  Mr. McMurray ensures that the activities of Health Alliance Plan and its subsidiaries comply with all federal and state laws and regulations.

Mr. McMurray has almost twenty years of legal experience as in-house counsel.  He has worked in the area of manufacturing and health care, specializing in general corporate law and health care law.  Prior to joining Health Alliance Plan, he served as Senior Counsel for Henry Ford Health System.

Mr. McMurray’s goal is to integrate activities of the legal department with the operational and strategic activities of the Health Alliance Plan.  This integration helps launch strategic initiatives while complying with all laws and regulations.  In addition, Mr. McMurray also interfaces with all federal and state agencies, such as, CMS and OFIS.

He is involved in numerous legal associations.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, Michigan Bar Association, Wolverine Bar Association, and National Health Lawyers Association.  He is a Board member of the Michigan Society of Healthcare Attorneys, and Health Law Section of the Michigan Bar Association.  Finally, he serves on several community organizations.  Currently, he is the President of the Virginia Park/Henry Ford Hospital Joint Venture, which is responsible for developing low to mid range housing within the Virginia Park Community in Detroit.  He is a member of the 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit and Mayor’s Time.

He is a native of Detroit.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree in political science from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan.  He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Detroit College of Law with a Juris Doctorate.

Maurice and his wife are residents of Detroit and have two daughters.
